You don’t always know what you’re going to get when you step into a recently opened restaurant for the first time, even if it’s the latest location of a brand already going strong. I had seen the reviews of other Joy Love Burger locations, but, even with that knowledge, I was not entirely prepared for my visit to their latest opening located at 14625 Memorial Drive.

After navigating their menu and placing my order, I took my first real hard look at the seating situation. I was struck by the fact that all the chairs looked just a little too big for the tables they were placed with. I had a lot of time to ponder this choice of furniture because it took a strangely long amount of time to prepare my order. I don’t mind a wait, but it did seem a little odd that my simple, plain burger didn’t come out sooner. And then there was the fact that—and this is in no way shape or form their fault–their satellite got stuck in a 10-second loop of the World Cup, leaving me to watch a player repeatedly miss a free kick, viewing his anguish over and over again.

Fortunately, this is not the part where I tell you that free kick was a metaphor for the food at Joy Love Burger. Sure, the fries were a little too big and a little too underseasoned, but in spite of all the weirdness of my visit, they’ve got a burger that is completely on point.

The beef in this burger is excellently seasoned and has a really great cook on it. The patty is wide, but not overly tall, hitting a nice balance of being juicy without being messy. When you see it for the first time, you might worry about the size of the bun, but don’t—while it looks huge, it’s no dense monster. These buns are fluffy and their slight buttery flavor complements the meat well. Upon my first bite, the only thing I could think was, “how do so many other places that offer burgers get things so wrong?” I’m looking forward to having it again, chair-to-table ratio be damned.

So yes, if you’ve been missing out on Joy Love because you didn’t want to make a drive out to Katy or Tomball, now is your chance to get in on this wonderful burger closer to home, especially if you’re regularly in the Energy Corridor or Westchase. It might take a bit for them to call your order number, but your patience will be rewarded.
