I don't know if you've realized it, but we've kind of been on a fried chicken kick recently. There are plenty of good birds to be had out there, but now you have to consider Goode Bird.
Starting noon Sunday you can order from Goode Bird, a pop-up from Goode Company. The pop-up will offer poultry brined in salt, honey, and aromatics, dipped in buttermilk, then dredged in seasoned flour. You can get half (five piece) or full (10 piece) orders. Other chicken goodies include tenders, spit-roasted birds in half and full orders, and a simple two-piece with two sides and biscuit.
Sides include pimiento macaroni and cheese, Cajun dirty rice, fried okra, mashed potatoes, and jalapeño creamed corn. You can get also get appetizers like deviled eggs and skillet cornbread, salads, and sandwiches (like Buffalo chicken and something approximating a hot chicken sandwich), family-size fried and roast chicken packs that serve four, and desserts like Goode Company's famous Brazos Bottom Pecan Pie.
Beer and cocktails, including margaritas both individually packed and by the gallon, will also be served.
"I have a serious love for fried chicken and cooking it at home for meals around the table," says Levi Goode, chef/owner of Goode Company. "For years I’ve been wanting to open a ‘chicken joint’ where I could really let my Southern roots shine, and I decided that if there was ever a time when people needed a bit of comfort, it’s definitely now."
This takeout only concept will be available 4–8 p.m. Mon–Fri and noon to 8 p.m. Sat–Sun. Call 713-999-4180 to place an order, then pick it up at the Armadillo Palace at 5015 Kirby Dr.
