Fans of the old Palace Bowling Lanes on Bellaire Boulevard will finally be able to return to the old place when Palace Social opens this June.

According to an announcement by Palace Social—which is part of the new mixed-use development Southside Commons at 4191 Bellaire Blvd.—the bowling alley, reimagined as an entertainment and food destination, is just weeks from its unveiling.

"We’re excited to welcome guests of all ages to Palace Social, drawing on the memories of the past with a new vision of what a neighborhood entertainment concept can be,” said Billy Forney, CEO of Palace Social. “Our goal is to tap into the nostalgia that folks have for the former Palace Bowling Lanes with food, beverage, gaming, and entertainment offerings that resonate with today’s tastes. We fully intend for new memories to be made at Palace Social, which has been a true community-driven project.”

The heart of the 27,000-square-foot space, designed by both Tramonte Design Studio and Gin Design Group with branding done by BLKBOX, is the eight-lane alley, but there's a lot more going on including a 3,900-square-foot arcade, 600-square-foot e-sports lounge, event rooms, and a 159-seat open-area restaurant and lounge.

Jonathan Horowitz of Convive Hospitality Consulting was tapped to help develop the food and beverage program at Palace Social, and chef Ryan Hildebrand (formerly FM Kitchen & Bar) put together the menu that focuses on Southern-inspired fare with some healthy elements. Chef Efrain Villareal, previously of Tony's Mexican Kitchen, will run the show. 

As for drinks, Jennifer Caldwell, whose résumé includes Goodnight Charlie's, designed the beverage program with original and classic cocktails, plus beer and wine. 

“Palace Social is definitely not yesterday’s bowling alley canteen experience,” said Hildebrand. “Our menu is loaded with elevated comfort food and gourmet shareables, a mix of southern regional classics, and all-American fare that draws on the history of Palace Lanes while attracting a new generation of diners looking for a great meal in addition to the fun attractions.”
