Real Agave is the latest project from seasoned Houston hospitality veteran Bill Floyd.

A new upscale tequila bar opening on September 14 in the ground floor of a 55-story downtown building promises to become a chief happy hour spot for weary downtown workers in search of a stiff drink after a long day of work. Designed by the Houston office of global architecture firm Gensler at 1100 Louisiana (in the former digs of a bank branch), Real Agave is the latest project from seasoned Houston hospitality veteran Bill Floyd, whose impressive rolodex of projects includes buzzy spots like El Real, Potente, and Porta’Vino

The 2,296 square foot space has been decked out in sleek custom finishes, including hand-painted Dia de Los Muertos murals in cool shades of Casa Dragones blue. There’s space for up to 96 guests and the spot can be reserved for private functions—a necessary feature for any downtown-located hospitality space. Guests of Real Agave can expect an elegant experience featuring high-end tequilas and other spirits complimented by Mexican-inspired cuisine that will be delivered to Real Agave through a dumbwaiter from the kitchen of Floyd’s El Real Tex-Mex restaurant, which was recently reborn in the downtown tunnel system after first becoming a fixture in Montrose.

“The classic Tex Mex menu of El Real has been elevated by Chef Derek Cooper to bring mouthwatering bar bites to the Gensler-designed space of Real Agave,” said Floyd in a statement. “The bar, featuring full wine and spirits selections along with the tequilas and mezcals, is staffed by some of Houston’s most accomplished mixologists.”

El Real will be open Monday through Friday from 3:30 p.m.–8 p.m. for drinks and light bites. Later in October, the bar will start offering lunch from 11 a.m.–2 p.m.
