Thank the Astros For All These Food & Drink Specials Around Town

The Astros go head to head with the New York Yankees.

By Shelby Stewart

The Astros are in the playoffs, and you can celebrate at these local restaurants.

Our beloved Astros are playing in the American League Championship Series once again. After sweeping AL West division rivals, the Seattle Mariners, in the division series, the boys are back home at Minute Maid Park seeking another victory and pennant for Space City.

Though this postseason has kept all fans on the edge of their seats, the Astros are still pushing through as they prepare for a best-of-seven-game series against their longtime foe, the New York Yankees. Games one and two of the series will be played at home starting Wednesday, so here are a few places in Houston where you can cheer on the ‘Stros and enjoy America's favorite pastime.

Best Astros Bars

8th Wonder Brewery

Houston's mainstay brewery will be pouring faux’mers while the boys are hitting homers during the playoffs. Over 15 beverages will be available on tap and expect local food vendors like Blk Mkt Birria to serve food ahead of the game. As an added bonus, the local bar is operating with new postseason hours for the playoffs, opening at noon and closing at 10 p.m.

Bobcat Teddy's Ice House

For all Astros playoff games, Bobcat Teddy's will offer $5 Orbit shots, and $22 Astros buckets of Buffalo Bayou Crush City, Karbach Crawford Bock, and 8th Wonder Dome Faux’m. (Bring your pups too!)

Cactus Cove Bar & Grill

The rustic-industrial hangout is the perfect place for your Astros watch party this week. The Cactus Cove will offer domestic buckets for $15, and appetizers such as chips and queso and wings will also be on discount. Get the ambiance of Minute Maid Park with the $6 Chilli Cheese Fries and Chilli Cheese Nachos.

FM Kitchen & Bar

Both FM locations will offer Astros specials for all postseason games, including deals on Jello shots, $5 Crawford Bock drafts, $8 Ranch Waters, and 3 for $10 FM Sliders. The more the merrier is always the motto at FM Kitchen and Bar, so if you bring your friends, you can nab $25 domestic beer towers or the luxury box package, which includes 12 FM sliders, fries, and tots for $45.

Cheer on the Astros at Georgia James Tavern.

GJ Tavern

Underbelly Hospitality's GJ Tavern's proximity to Minute Maid Park makes it the ideal spot to swing by for post-game libations. The Tavern offers its happy hour prices immediately after every game, and no worries if it runs late. Happy hour pricing will be available from 9 p.m. to closing.

Jax Grill

Katy, Shepherd, South Rice

Owner Paul Miller's neighborhood bar & grill will offer appetizers, beers, and margaritas for half off during Astros playoff games at all three locations.

Kin Dee

Assuming that you can get a seat at this Thai hotspot's bar before the first pitch, you'll get to choose from two pale lager beers—Singha and Chang—and get 50 percent off, which is just $3 when the discount is applied.

If you can guess the final score of an Astros game, you'll earn free street tacos at La Calle Tacos & Tortas.

Restaurants With Astros Specials

Chef Fabian at Maize is leveling up in the postseason with custom drinks and happy hour specials. Beer will be half-priced, but the Astros margarita is the highlight of the show. Private rooms will also be available to book if you want a game day watch party, and chips and guac are on the house.

La Calle Tacos & Tortas

Bagby Park, Downtown, Heights

If you want to cheer on our hometown heroes but don't want to break the bank, La Calle Tacos & Tortas menu is wallet-friendly. In the postseason, most menu items won’t break a sawbuck: draft beers are $4, spirits are $5, and frozen margaritas or pina Coladas are $6.  Food specials start at $6, including the Gringa and Volcanes. If you want to bring your entire crew, pitchers of chelads in flavors from mango to michelada are $16. Good with predictions? If you can guess the final score correctly, you'll walk away with a free order of street tacos.

Pier 6

Texas City

During the playoffs, discount beer is the name of the game at Pier 6 Seafood & Oyster House. Pints of beer are priced at just $4, and no matter where you're sitting in the restaurant, you'll have a great view of the game thanks to their massive big-screen TVs.

If you pull up to Roots in your Astros gear, you're guaranteed 20 percent off food. The wagyu beef tartare, salmon ceviche, and the juicy lucy burger will all be included in the discount, and while most drinks are already self-serve, the Eado wine bar will also extend the 20 percent off to the wine.

The Original Ninfas

Second Ward

The Original Ninfa's on Navigation is spicing up their drink menu ahead of the playoffs with new themed cocktails: For the H, a boozy drink mixed with mezcal, El Jimador Silver, Aperol, and apricot liqueur, and Crush City, a Mexican rum drink blended with orange juice, topped off with orange soda, and an orange wedge garnish. As a bonus, if you have tickets to a home game and dine at the Navigation location, you can take a complimentary shuttle to and from the game.

Chicken Yakitori.

Tobiuo Sushi & Bar

If you show a little team spirit at Tobiuo Sushi & Bar by wearing some Astros merch, yakitori skewers (chicken thigh, Heritage pork belly, Robata, and Hamachi Kama) will be half off, and glasses of hot sake are $2. Remember to mention the "Astros special" to your server or bartender.

Wild Oats

It doesn't get much more patriotic than Wild Oats Texas-inspired restaurant, and the loyalty runs even deeper during the playoffs. Lonestar beers are $3 during each Astros game. Pair that with one of their main attractions, like the wagyu chicken fried steak or the mojo pork belly, and you've got a home run.
