After a series of popups throughout Houston—and an award for Best Burgers in America from Good Morning America—Trill Burgers is opening a proper restaurant.

It's just one of many ventures Port Arthur native and rapper Bun B has headed up within the last year. Trill Burgers was seen at music festivals around the country including Coachella, Rolling Loud, Rock the Bells and Something in the Water. The smash burgers made their debut at the 2022 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, selling 12,000 burgers in just three weeks. At every single popup, Houston patrons found Bun B flipping burgers and toasting buns, eager to feed those with a taste for a juicy smash burger.

“It’s been a long time coming, not just for us, but for anybody that’s had a Trill Burger or wanted a Trill Burger and couldn’t get one,” Bun B said in a statement. With the new restaurant, he plans to change that.

The former James Coney Island in Montrose will soon be the new home of Trill Burgers.

Set to open in 2023, Trill Burgers will occupy 3607 S Shepherd Dr. at Richmond Avenue in the Montrose neighborhood. If you’re familiar, the space was formerly one of Houston’s longest running James Coney Island restaurants. The entire building is roughly 3,000 square feet and has a drive-through, perfect for those who like their fast food, well, fast.

“We’ve been working hard to find the right location to make it as easily accessible to as many people as possible. I think we found that location, and we can’t wait to open these doors to the city of Houston and eventually the world,” Bun B said.

But perhaps the best part about the announcement of a new restaurant is the addition of new menu items. When the popups first began, patrons could taste its three signature offerings: the OG Trill Burger, the Grilled Onion Burger, and the Vegan Smashburger, all served with a side of seasoned fries. Upon the restaurant’s opening, you can expect a new signature burger, plus a few additional menu items, which have yet to be announced.

According to a release, Trill Burgers will open early 2023. No opening date has been set.
