This month, there’s no question about whom we’re seating at the head of the table: Kam Franklin, lead singer of local band The Suffers, which recently appeared on Letterman and promptly brought down the house. We want this woman at every party we host, forever. Other notables who made the cut for May: designer Chan Luu, whose super-cool jewelry we covet, and who’s coming to town to host a Pop-Up Bazaar at J. Landa this month; Houstonian Charles David Jordan, who won a Carnegie Hero Medal for risking his life to save a woman from a pair of vicious pit bulls; Rabbi Amy Weiss, executive director of Undies for Everyone, for identifying and solving a problem—providing undergarments for underprivileged kids—before we even knew it existed; and local writer Katherine Center, whose charming new novel, Happiness for Beginners, is the perfect reason to spend rainy Sunday afternoons in one’s pajamas, not that we know anything about that. As for others who perhaps deserve a dressing-down, there’s Britt Sudduth, president of the Houston alumni chapter of Sigma Chi, who hopefully will speak to the recent hazing allegations against his fraternity at UH; John Nau, who simply must expound upon why plans for his much-ballyhooed East Downtown cultural center have been put on hold; and Mick Jagger, who better tell us why in the hell the Rolling Stones are heading to the Dallas area in June but not H-Town, when they haven’t been here in almost 10 years. For shaaaaaame, Mick. (Although, quick note, you’re always welcome at our parties.)
