The Mayor’s Holiday Spectacular Is Heading to a Screen Near You

The annual City of Houston tradition, now in its 101st year, will stream on December 5 and 18.

These days it feels like all we’re doing is writing about the holiday traditions you won’t be able to enjoy this year. So thank goodness for this bit of good news: the Reliant Lights Mayor’s Holiday Spectacular is returning for its 101st celebration in a new, but familiar way.

Following in the vein of last July’s televised Freedom Over Texas event, the city’s annual start to the holiday season will broadcast on December 5 via ABC 13’s digital platform. And in case you miss it the first time … or just feel like you need a little more celebration in your life, it’ll be rebroadcast on December 18.

This year’s lineup includes Grammy-winning pianist and producer Robert Glasper, R&B powerhouse Ledisi, and rising country singer and American Idol contender Laci Kaye Booth. But it’s not all sing and no dance. Houston Ballet, Break Free Hip Hop School, South East Houston’s J-Dance Company, and Dance of Asian America are also slated to perform.

And since we’re seriously in need of extra presents this year, there’ll also be appearances from Disney a cappella group DCappella, Selena tribute artist Amanda Solis, and local multicultural choir International Voices of Houston.

Oh, and Santa, of course.

December 5 and 18. Free. Online and on ABC13. More info at houstontx.gov.
