The first gift of the holiday season has arrived in Houston, and it’s sure add some merry and bright vibes to your festivities. You see, the Bayou City has not one, but two drive-thru Christmas light experiences, each boasting more than a million bulbs, so you can still enjoy this favorite seasonal tradition safely during the pandemic. Talk about lit.

A 30-minute drive north in Spring, The Light Park has decked its proverbial halls all over the Hurricane Harbor Splashtown parking lot with a mile-long display of holiday spirit, complete with a 700-foot LED tunnel (the largest in the world, organizers say).

As you listen to holiday music, brought to you by the drive-thru’s own entertainment crew, which includes DJ Snowflake, Pixel Penguin, and Santa himself, you’ll spot seasonal staples, as well as nods to the great Lone Star State, historic cowboys, and special tributes to our armed forces. There’re also signs featuring Christmas carol trivia displayed throughout the trail (check your answers here—and no cheating!), to keep you entertained between the lights.

More into those classic Christmas hits? Head out to Hockley for Rudolph’s Lightshow, where you’ll enjoy a dancing display merrily mixed to your favorite holiday tunes. Built across seven acres of land, the self-proclaimed original Houston Christmas drive-thru features cowboy snowmen (that’s snowmen wearing cowboy hats), 30-foot to 40-foot-tall Christmas trees, and even a nativity scene in lights.

You’ll also get an homage to Texas at this light display as you drive through a line of candy-cane colored oil well spouts, but we won’t tell you if this comes before or after you ride under arcs of leaping reindeer.

Whether you take your sleigh (read: car) to one or both of drive-thrus, these seasonal light spectaculars are sure to jingle your bells.
