Houston is an epicenter for music, food, and culture, but with the way our city stays in the news, you'd think we were on top of the world. Last week, blues player Milton Hopkins celebrated his 88th birthday, Netflix's Cheer announced its a new nationwide tour with a stop in H-Town, and, culinary brand CAVA opened in The Woodlands.

Netflix's Cheer announces new live tour, stops in Houston

 

Netflix's Cheer docuseries is taking their talent on the road with a nationwide tour. The show based in Corsicana will make a stop in the Houston area come June, with a performance at Smart Financial Centre in Sugar Land. 

Cypress student named National High School Quarterback of the year

 

The National Quarterback Club recently named Conner Weigman of Bridgeland High School the National Quarterback of the Year. The football player is being recognized for his leadership, aiding his high school team to an undefeated season. 

Race to the polls begins, today is the last day to register to vote

 

With the March primaries on the horizon, we're only 15 days away from early voting. 

Houston currently leads the nation in homicides. 

 

At the close of 2021, Houston's rate of homicides is 35 percent higher than other cities. According to Fox's local affiliate, new data shows that Houston leads in homicides amongst the nation's largest major cities. 

Blues Player Milton Hopkins celebrates his 88th birthday

 

Cousin to legend Lightnin' Hopkins, Milton Hopkins celebrated his birthday Saturday. While Hopkins is entering his more seasoned years, the artist has struggled with health issues, and to celebrate his 88th, his family and friends hosted a party and charity event to help pay for his medical bills. 

Culinary brand CAVA is bringing tastes of the Mediterranean to the Bayou City

 

The first outpost from the brand opened Friday in The Woodlands. The fast-casual restaurant will emphasize healthy Mediterranean cuisine. The company successfully launched in other major cities like Dallas and plans to open more locations in Houston.
