5 Things to Do in Houston This Weekend, February 4-6

The Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony, boat shows, and beer festivals.

By Shelby Stewart February 3, 2022

Watch the Winter Olympics opening ceremony on Friday.

EVEN THOUGH Punxsutawney Phil's Groundhog Day prediction shows six more weeks of winter, Houston is still carrying on with entertaining activities. Although southerners are not usually fans of the cold, it takes a little bit more than windy temps to close this city down (try an arctic freeze).  This weekend, bring in the Winter Olympics on the green at Discovery Green, laugh until your ribs hurt with James Murray at Improv, or get to "Jamming" at the One Love Beer and Music Festival honoring Bob Marley at SpindleTap Brewery.

Below, find five things to do this weekend.

Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony at Discovery Green

The Winter Olympics is gearing up for a breezy beginning this Friday, and you can celebrate the commencement of the winter event at Discovery Green. The park will host a watch party on a 16-by-9 foot screen, hosted by KPRC's Frank Billingsley, Daniella Guzman, Anthony Yanez, Brandon Walker, and Cathy Hernandez. The family-friendly event will offer plenty of games, plus a decadent hot chocolate station. Guests are encouraged to dress cozy, bring lawn chairs, and of course, snacks.

Discovery Green, 1500 McKinney Street. Friday, February 4, from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m. Free.  More information here.

One Love Beer and Music Festival

Don't worry, about a thing, at the One Love Beer and Music Festival this weekend at SpindleTap Brewery. The festival will honor the late musical icon Bob Marley, with live reggae music from DEM Roots Reggae, LION Heights, and DJ Fermented. Plus, Caribbean food vendors and One Love inspired double India Pale Ale.

SpindleTap Brewery, 10622 Hirsch Road. Saturday, February 5 from 11:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. For more information, visit Facebook.

Clear Lake Boat & Yacht Show

Get ready to rock the boat all weekend at the Clear Lake Boat & Yacht Show. The three-day excursion is the first and only on-the-water show of its kind and will be packed full of events that will keep you afloat all weekend long. Immerse in the whole yacht experience with heated tents, a DJ, and to top it all off, a Miami White Party.

Clear Lake Boat & Yacht Show, 3001 E NASA Pkwy, Seabrook, Texas 77586. Friday, February 4 - Sunday, February 6. For more information, the website.

Land Bridge-Tunnel Preview Party

Memorial Park Conservancy will celebrate its cathartic Land Bridge and Prairie project Saturday. Families can tour one of the park's four tunnels before it opens to public transportation. Enjoy food from various food trucks, live music, and learn more about Memorial Park's plans for the future.

Memorial Park Conservancy, 7575 North Picnic Lane. Saturday, February 5 from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Free. For more information, visit the website.

James Murray Live at Improv

Need a good laugh after a long week? Swing by Improv to watch James Murray's stand-up comedy show. The Impractical Jokers star, better know as "Murr," will take center stage and deliver some knee-slapping comedy to the Bayou City on Saturday.

Improv, 7620 Katy Fwy #455. Saturday, February 5 at 3:00 p.m. Tickets start at $160. For more information, visit Improv.
