Spring is so refreshing. The season adds new life and beauty to all that is Houston, and our latest issue of Houstonia is the perfect guide to the city as it starts to bloom.
The issue, which hits newsstands today, gives you the inside scoop on the Bayou City’s best staycations: from hotels to spas, and even co-working spaces. Not to mention a robust list of the city’s best parks to hang out with your family. It’s prime-time to go out and enjoy the city, especially with the threat of COVID-19 relaxing somewhat.
That gives spring a renewed excitement, and Houstonia’s third issue with Editor-In-Chief Nandi Howard at the helm shows us why.
“It could be the last one, or not, but I am sure that within these last two years, something that you were really looking forward to was canceled and you were stuck in Houston,” Howard writes in the spring issue opening note. “But in all honesty, Houston is arguably one of the best places to be in this now two-year-old pandemic.”
Things aren't completely back to normal, but they are starting to get there and we know our fellow Houstonians are ready to enjoy the months ahead to the fullest. The cover story takes a deeper look at the city’s seasonal fashion trends, and inside the magazine, we highlight Women’s History Month this March.
You’ll see some of Houston’s most influential ladies highlighted throughout the issue. We introduce you to the women who are large and in charge at some of Houston’s most lively bars and restaurants, and the woman who is innovating the Houston Airport System.
And of course, we don’t forget the beloved Houston rodeo. As the annual festival of cowboy and livestock culture begins, our issue gives you something to talk about with a look at the history of Black cowboys, and how they originated right in our backyard.
This issue is just more proof that there’s so much to love about Houston. The city’s rich culture and people make it the place to savor the simple things in life, like a pound of succulent Viet-Cajun crawfish.
“In other words, enjoy yourself this year, because I sure will,” Howard concludes.
