No World Cup Ticket? Houston’s FIFA Fan Festival Has You Covered

By Brittany Britto Garley June 2, 2026

Prepare for Houston’s 34-daylong watch party.

Houston is days away from the World Cup kickoff, and the city has been gearing up for months. One of the liveliest watch parties is happening in East Downtown (EaDo) at the FIFA Fan Festival—a 250,000-square-foot entertainment district with a 7,500-fan capacity and an anticipated 15,000 visitors daily.

The festival, which will “soft-launch” on June 9, is free and open to all ages, making it the place to experience the World Cup whether or not you have a game ticket. “It’s the biggest watch party in all of Houston,” says Chris Canetti, president of the FIFA Houston 2026 World Cup Committee. “This is the biggest event we have ever had—the largest [World Cup] event in the world—and any person can come down and enjoy it.”

For organizers, the stakes go beyond soccer. “We want fans to really understand who we are as a city,” says Patti Smith, director of Houston’s Fan Festival.

Though the space is still under construction, officials recently gave media a full walk-through of the venue. The festival grounds aim to offer something for every type of fan: local and global food vendors, live performances, multiple screens to watch every match, plenty of options to cool down, and a massive pitch where you can kick it, literally. Here is everything you need to know about the FIFA Fan Festival.

Getting In

The festival will be easy to spot and hear. Searchlight beams will shine from the festival, and a train horn will blare any time a goal is scored, but just in case you need some more guidance:

The main entrances are on Walker and Bastrop Streets (near Shell Energy Stadium) and on Polk S. (between Hutchins St and Emancipation Ave).

Rideshare

Smith says rideshare drop-off will be available near Polk St., and both pickup and drop-off will be at the dedicated rideshare lot at the corner of Leeland and Chartres Streets. MetroRail is highly encouraged.

Road closures

Hutchins St. (from Polk St. to Walker St.) and Polk St. (from Emancipation Ave. to Hutchins St.) will be closed from June 6 to July 23. Areas near St. Emanuel Street and the intersection of Polk, Dallas, Lamar, McKinney, and Walker Streets will be closed an hour before Fan Festival and will reopen after the festival closes.

Parking

The host committee notes that there are more than 90,000 parking spaces within three miles of the festival, including the Avenida North Garage.

When to Go

Fan Festival will be open for 34 days during the World Cup, which runs from June 11 through July 19. On each match day, the event will open 90 minutes before the first game and remain open through the conclusion of the day's final match. Officials have advised attendees to get in line early. Though the public event is free, it’s required to queue up, and only 7,500 people will be allowed in the space at a time.

Beat the Heat

The FIFA Houston committee has been particularly intentional about its heat mitigation strategies during the World Cup, given that Houston is almost always hot and humid. In addition to misters and shaded areas, the Fan Festival will also hand out cool towels and feature several structures to stay comfortable in the high temps. Multiple free water refilling stations will be on site. Here are some other attractions where you can find relief.

The Magic Sky

Previously displayed at Coachella, this 144-foot-diameter canopy and viewing area from Germany will feature fun installations and serve as a cooling area. Temperatures under the Magic Sky are expected to drop at least 15 degrees, according to Smith.

Space Center Houston and Adidas have teamed up to host the Esphera, a soccer ball-shaped cooling dome that projects space and soccer footage.

Esphera

This giant air-conditioned soccer ball–shaped installation from Space Center Houston and Adidas showcases a three-and-a-half-minute, 360-degree video dome that projects footage of the Artemis launch and landing in Houston, plus some of the most notable soccer moments and players in history. The design is inspired by the official FIFA World Cup 2026 match ball. With a capacity of 100 people at a time, this is something worth queuing up for.

Find Your Spot

Organizers have ensured that a screen is visible from every vantage point, and the festival is slated to have plenty of places to lounge, including picnic tables and benches. Here are some of the other highlights.

Houston’s Aramco Arena boasts the largest pitch of any FIFA Fan Festival in the country.

Aramco Arena

This spongy, synthetic turf soccer pitch is the only Aramco-sponsored field at any fan festival in the country (out of 16 cities!). Steps away from the Walker St. entrance, the pitch will host ongoing youth tournaments, and will be open to community members and fans to play on. It will also serve as a secondary viewing area during larger matches and features a 45-foot screen, the largest anywhere in the festival. Officials say the pitch will be outfitted with ramps, misters, and shaded structures to keep fans cool.

Fun fact: The festival will not be the last you see of this field. Aramco will donate and relocate the entire pitch to Houston’s Moody Park.

Houston Hall

Along with a lineup of more than a dozen food trucks and the nearby Michelob Ultra beer garden, the festival houses an indoor, air-conditioned area that’s designed as an authentic visual celebration of Houston. Expect another Space Center Houston activation with artifacts, rovers, and giant moons hanging from the ceiling; a Houston Rodeo photo op with a chuck wagon; a 713 display with art cars and slabs; a live artist painting; and a replica of the Astrodome ceiling. Screens and margaritas are a guarantee.

The Main Stage

Outfitted with three screens, this stage is scheduled to host over 60 acts, including bands, magicians, fire-breathers, youth groups, and musicians, many of them up-and-coming from Houston, Smith says. Post up here, and you’re likely to see some stunning views of the Downtown skyline behind the stage and score a spot under the nearby cooling Magic Sky.

Multifaith area

Attendees of different religions and faiths will be considered. The festival’s designated Multifaith area will feature spaces for prayer and foot-washing stations.

Entertainment will feature a lineup that reflects the city's diversity.

Entertainment

Each day of the festival features a specific theme, and multiple performers have been confirmed for Fan Festival, including Baby Bash, Frankie J, Trae tha Truth, DJ Mei, and Mike Jones. Celebrity hosts such as comedian Chinedu Ogu and radio personalities Dana Cortez, Kiotti Brown, and Young Jas will help usher in talent.

Football Fiesta

Within walking distance of the festival, there will be multiple nearby restaurants and bars joining in on the fun. The host committee has partnered with more than a dozen establishments to welcome soccer fans in the Downtown and East Downtown area, including 8th Wonder Brewery, Boozer’s, District 7 Grill, Eight Row Flint East End, Huynh Restaurant, Koffeteria, Little Woodrow’s, Neil’s Bahr, Pitch 25, Rodeo Goat, Sunset Rooftop Lounge, Texas Tailgate Sports Bar Patio, and Truck Yard.

For Those Who Want to Sit Down

Starting at $95, fans can access the two-level Club 104 venue during the festival, which guarantees air conditioning, water and soft drinks, private bathrooms, snacks, and a cash bar. Best of all, standing is not required. There’ll be various types of seating, including bar stools, tables, and more, plus an outside deck. Companies or parties with around 100 are given first dibs on reserving the upstairs area, Legends Loft. If it isn’t reserved, guests have full access to the space. Total capacity is 200 people.

Club 104 offers an air-conditioned space with private bathrooms, refreshments, snacks, and a cash bar included. The festival is still under construction

Elsewhere, shaded cabanas for two are also available for reservation. Tickets are available on Ticketmaster. The nearby Founders Pavilion is reserved for private commercial partners.

Pack light

Attendees are encouraged to travel light, according to the Fan Festival website. Bags not exceeding 12” x 12” x 6” are welcome and subject to screening. Those without bags can use designated express entry lanes when available.

So far, officials have confirmed that fans cannot bring their own lawn chairs but they are considering offering chairs to rent.

A list of prohibited items will be released in the coming days. It is encouraged to bring your own reusable bottles or cups for drinking. Check the FAQ website ahead of the festival.

What to Expect at the Gate

The Houston Police Department is leading security for the entire World Cup in the city, with support from other agencies. Canetti says the Fan Festival will operate similarly to other city stadiums.

If you need help or medical attention, there will be a medical station in a white tent on site, as well as a medical trailer with staff on site.

Will ICE be there?

Canetti says the Houston host committee has not contacted ICE agents as part of security and that ICE’s deployment falls within the federal government’s scope. “From our understanding, ICE will be playing a role in safety and security around the World Cup, just like it does for Super Bowls and other major events, but they will not be conducting immigration activities,” he says.

Before You Go

Plan ahead. Queue up early. Stay hydrated.

Canetti says how busy the event will be is to be determined, since this event has never been hosted in Houston or in the US at this scale. “We would expect everyone to get here early…and plan your trip very well,” he says. “Go online and read all of the Know Before You Go information about transportation and parking, and what you can bring in and what you can’t bring in, and that will help make it the most enjoyable experience for everybody.”

Canetti compares the protocols and security measures of the Fan Festival to those of a Rockets or Astros game. “You’re going to go through the same level of security protocols to get in and very, very similar rules and regulations in terms of what you can and can’t bring into a [venue],” he says. “That’s a very general and maybe an easy way to look at it.”
