Survive the Season

Three Places to Pamper Mid-Shopping Spree

Where to power up during your next gift-gathering marathon.

Parties, shopping, and season’s greetings—with all the folks surrounding you this holiday season, sometimes you need an hour (or two) to unwind all by yourself. Treat yourself at one of these great local places—your sanity will thank you.

Midtown Reflexology
540 Waugh Dr. Suite B
(832) 460-0632

I hate to let this cat out of the bag (as it’s my secret heaven), but hidden in a strip center across from the Montrose Whole Foods is one of the best ways to de-stress in Houston.

Like a massage where you keep all your clothes on (peace out, awkwardness!), reflexology is meant to help you detoxify and release tension. Here, the technicians sit you in a comfortable lounge chair, cover you in a warm blanket, and get to work on all your stressed out little muscles. Like I said, heaven.

Isle Pedi Spa
2800 Kirby Dr. Suite  B234
(713) 528-8802

A palace to all things nail-related, Isle Pedi Spa is one of the cleanest, most beautiful, and, ahem, priciest nail salons in town.

That said, a trip there is worth every penny—you walk out with dang-near-perfect nails every time and have a relaxing experience to boot. Try the Pedissage if your dogs are barking from all the Galleria shopping you’ve been doing.

Cru Wine Bar
2800 Kirby Dr.
(713) 528-9463

The holidays are made for day drinking. Dropping by for a quick glass of bubbly post-pedi might get your blood pressure back in the normal range before you head back to a house full of in-laws.

Every Thursday at Cru is "Charm Thursday," in fact, and all bottles of champagne are half-off. And if you just can't choose after all heavy Christmas gift decision-making, Cru also has an extensive list of 13 different wine flight options (and yes, you can even get a flight of bubblies).
