Forgot about all the cool spring trends that debuted back in September 2013? Here are some of the best to imitate when patio weather makes its triumphant return.

Pretty in Pastel
Subtle, candy-hued looks were all over the runway this season. To keep this trend from descending into “little girl” territory, choose silhouettes with clean lines, minimal details, and no froufrou (like Peter Pan collars or lace).   

That said, a scallop-hem pair of shorts in a peachy pink paired with a chambray shirt and metallic sandals is a perfect casual look.

Go Wide
Wide-leg trousers were my main choice in pants circa 1997. Back then, I was 16 and they were Jnco Jeans. Let’s never discuss this again. Thankfully for us all, those denim disasters have no relation to the 1940s-style cuts of today’s top trend.

A pair of wide-leg jeans in a dark wash looks fantastic with a swing sweater. Focus on getting the right proportions—the sweater should have a slim fit in the arms and a flare out from the chest on down—while the jeans should be fitted through the hip and gradually flare. Avoid anything that’s too loose or bell-bottomed. Top with an of-the-moment color scarf for extra style points.

Flower Power
Flowers in spring might sound a bit on the nose, but trust: everybody looks damn good with a few petals strewn about.

Grab a pair of Liberty of London Vans (yep—the very same UK brand famous for their Victorian-inspired floral patterns) and a lace top to up your look’s “girly factor,” but bring it all down to Earth with a pair of cropped and rolled boyfriend jeans.
