Houston’s Pop Shop Makes Father’s Day Gifting a Celebration

Don't get Dad another tie.

By Shy Hardiman June 9, 2014

Father’s Day is on the periphery! It’s time to rush to the local drug store, grab a card shaped like a tie (because you are quirky and he will appreciate your innovative humor) and run home to surprise dad.

This Father’s Day, will your dad or husband really feel appreciated? According to a survey conducted by RetailMeNot, people are more likely to buy their mother a gift for Mother’s Day than their father for Father’s Day. What’s more, they will shill out more bucks on a Mother’s Day present than they will for a Father’s Day present.

This year, avoid the last-minute scramble for the perfect gift. Houston’s Pop Shop America is having an event, Mister Man, where buyers can purchase gifts for a special man in their life. It is free and will have all man-ner (get it!) of handcrafted presents to choose from.

Unlike your local department store sale, Mister Man will have mini golf, drinks, and a live DJ. This will be the Pop Shop’s second annual Mister Man, and as in its former year, it will be a celebration of all things “man.” When the doors open at 5 p.m. on Friday, June 13, guests will be welcomed by music and a barbecue dinner. The event, which will be held at The Odd Fellows Building in the Heights (115 E. 14th St.), includes a mustache contest. That’s right, at 7:30 p.m. the facial hair contest will take place and the winner “will be showered in manly gifts.” There will also be a burlesque show before the doors close at 10 p.m.

With all of the different items on the itinerary to distract, don’t forget to actually buy Dad’s gift.
