Hey there Houston,

I never thought I would be saying this, but here it is, the sincerest thank you from the bottom of my heart: Thank you for your nasty humidity. Gracias for your suffocating mugginess. Because of your frizz-inducing, hair-volumizing weather, my locks are now in high style.

That’s right, H-Town. You probably thought it was knee-slappingly funny every time I stepped outside and my hair was comparable to the Bride of Frankenstein’s. But the joke's on you, because the big hair that was oh-so-popular for Texas girls in the '80s is back again, and you’re helping me achieve the 'do of my wildest dreams.

It’s about time big hair was cool again, but there’s one problem, because frizzy hair is … not. Since frizz is just something that comes along with having big hair/living in Houston, the only thing to do is try to manage it. And to help, I’ve taken the liberty of finding the best drugstore products for all of you big-haired Bettys. Frankenwife, take note.

TRESemme Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Spray, $3.99 at Target

Remember when super straight hair was all the rage? Like to the point of being fried? Yeah, we want to prevent that. If you want to tame your big hair by straightening it, use a protective spray first—it keeps your hair healthier and looking more natural. Not to mention this one does a good job of preventing the fly-aways that often come with straightened hair.

John Frieda Frizz Ease Extra Strength Hair Serum, $9.99 at Target

A staple at many hair salons, Frizz Ease is a tried and true haircare product. Run a bit through your hair after you shower, and you should see results once it’s dry. Known for not only taming your frizzy mess of a mane, it’s also good for restoring split ends.

OGX Moroccan Curling Perfection Defining Cream, $5.74 at Walmart

Having curly hair is tough in a place like Houston. While natural curls should be at their most gorgeous when they’re untamed, curls can become nonexistent in humidity, where they become nothing more than a frizzy ball of hair. Never fear, because this cream is perfect for girls with big, curly hair – it holds in humid weather, and keeps curls shiny and frizz-free.

It's a 10 Miracle Volumizing Blowdry Spray, $18.99 at Target

Blowdrying doesn’t always bode well with big hair. Luckily, this spray helps to prevent the rats nest that usually occurs after your hair dries. This one is effective in minimizing frizz, holding shine and making your locks look extraordinarily big.

Marc Anthony Oil Of Morocco Argan Oil Volume Shine Hairspray, $8.99 at Ulta

Hairspray is what we most associate with the famous Texas hair of the '80s. So why not bring that back? Marc Anthony’s Volume Shine Hairspray does it all – it keeps frizz and fly-aways in place, all the while expanding the size of your already-big hair. Sounds like a good deal to me.
