There's nothing that sends an involuntary shudder through the system like the words "back to school." Even for those of us without kids or a summer break. We much prefer to think of September as "back to fashion" month, when summer's breezy styles make way for a richer, deeper, more layered palette. Not to mention: boots. Get excited and get your shop on in August with a slew of trunk shows full of fall fashions.

Aug. 5: Alexander McQueen Trunk Show at Neiman Marcus

Designer Sarah Burton seemed inspired by Tim Burton (no relation, probably?) with this collection, infusing frills like lace, ruffles and pleats with a surprising solemnity.

Aug. 7-9: Watters Brides Trunk Show at Mia Bridal Couture

Your first (and as of now, only) chance to check out the full line of coveted Watters wedding dresses when the brand brings its fall collection to Mia, so get those RSVPs in ASAP.

Aug. 8: Steven Lagos Personal Appearance at Neiman Marcus

It's a great time to get introduced to this line of jewelry, as a pair of Lagos' signature elements—a modern take on pearls and a textural chains with unexpected shapes—are among the hottest trends for fall.

Aug. 13-14: Armani Collezioni Trunk Show at Elizabeth Anthony

Perfectly tailored classics rendered in the finest fabrics to come out of Italy is what we expect from Armani, and the stark blacks and neutrals for fall are updated with hints of sheen throughout.

Aug. 14: Jason Wu Trunk Show at Neiman Marcus

Two personal appearances in one year from Jason Wu is probably too much to ask for, but for those still in lust after his spring trip, the streamlined-yet-expensive look of his pre-fall collection is among his most wearable yet.

Aug. 20-21: Alberta Ferretti Trunk Show at Elizabeth Anthony

Defined by stunning embroidered fabrics and ethereal sheer panels, pre-fall looks from Ferretti are a little bit baroque and a little bit boho, rendered in rich black and opulent jewel tones. 

Aug. 24: Yigal Azraoul Trunk show at Saks Fifth Avenue

Mosaics and other patterns both geometric and natural are the stars of Azraoul's fall collection, adding interest and finesse to looks defined by luxe textures and generous cuts.

Aug. 25-26: Giambattista Valli Trunk Show at Neiman Marcus

If you're inclined to pop by a trunk show for the pure spectacle more than the shopping potential, this is the one to circle on your calendar. Valli's couture collection for fall swathed models in tufts of tulle, disco-ball fringe and elaborate beaded florals, not to mention the occasional touch of acid color.

Aug. 26-30: Rachel Zoe Trunk Show at Tootsies

The stylist-turned-designer must have serious sales in Houston, as her seasonal trunk shows are among the largest and longest. Look here for mod-inspired silhouettes in black and white with fur details for a dose of luxe texture.
