It's the most important event in February other than the Academy Awards and the Super Bowl halftime show.

Other than the Super Bowl halftime show and the Academy Awards, the most important event in a gay man’s social calendar this month is Valentine’s Day. No matter what your relationship status is, there are plenty of ways to show your date(s) how much you appreciate them. While it’s always the thought that counts, you do not want to end up by that guy who tries to buy a cheap teddy bear and some Korbel at CVS on Sunday night. Here are some suggestions to give your man a gift fit for a queen.

New Relationships

New boyfriends are always tricky to shop for. You don’t want to spend too much coin on someone you don’t know really well. Plus you don’t want to freak out your new beau with an overly personal gift. So instead of getting matching His and His bathrobes, why not treat him to a nice cooking class? Sur La Table, Central Market or Whole Foods usually offer a variety of courses, sometimes with a romantic spin. Some of the class are BYOB so plan accordingly. Plus, if it doesn’t work out, then you can impress the next one with a homemade prosciutto-wrapped pork loin with an olive tapenade.

Long-Term Boyfriend

So you’ve been dating a guy for a few years—that’s practically a lifetime in homosexual years. Celebrate the time you’ve spent together with a new watch. Whether it’s a classic timepiece or brand new Hermés iWatch, nothing says the clock is ticking like a constant reminder on their wrist. If you’re not ready for that level of commitment, another practical wrist-based gift is some wearable fitness tech. Help them stick to their commitment to the new year with a Fitbit. You have to tread lightly with this one but just ensure them that you care about their health, you find him sexy, and beach season is fast approaching.

The first set of gifts can also apply to your lawfully wedded husband. But if you want to go for more, you can always get your husband a new suit. Sites like Combatant Gentleman sell limited-run suits with prices comparable to the old Joseph A. Bank flash sales. Make sure you know your man’s measurements because getting customizations adds to the wait time. Then take your hubby and his new duds out for a fancy-pants dinner (but you'll need to wait till next weekend because Valentine’s reservations at State of Grace or Helen are nigh-impossible. Believe me, I tried).

Occasional Third

Valentine’s Day isn’t just for couples. Why not make your other other man feel special as well? You can get him a nice print of the Eiffel Tower to show him what he brings to the relationship, or you can treat him to a night in with entertainment featuring famous trios: The Three Amigos, Three’s Company, the Harry Potter movies or The Big Lebowski. Or if you’re a bunch of nerds, you can get matching jewelry featuring the Deathly Hallows or the Triforce.

Grindr Hookup

Just because you’re single on Valentine’s Day doesn’t mean you have to be alone. Since Valentine’s Day is on a Sunday, there’s no reason to not go out on Saturday night to find some companionship. All you need is some determination and a smartphone app. Depending on how the night goes, the perfect gift for your angel of the morning comes straight out of Derek Jeter’s playbook. (Look, Dad, a sports reference!) The Yankee lothario is known for handing out parting gifts to his overnight guests. Why not have a gift ready for your Grindr hookup stocked with some Lara Bars, bottled water, hand sanitizer, copy of Weekend on DVD, and some spare change to reimburse them for the Uber back to their car?
