If it seems like Victoria "Tori" Whitworth is wise beyond her 25 years, that might be because she's packed a lot into them. The former model lived in Australia for a while and traveled to India to become a certified yoga teacher. Now she works at Houston's Olivia+Poppy, designing stunning wall coverings, but she's still a Janis Joplin free spirit at heart and in style.

How would you describe your personal style?

Bohemian for sure. I can get really out there with some of my outfits, but now that I am working full-time in an office environment I have been trying to find a healthy balance between my bohemian gypsy ways and being a little more business casual. It doesn’t always work out so well.

I am grateful to have Olivia+Poppy as a work environment because I am fortunate enough to have the freedom to wear whatever I want to the office. Even if I decide to show up to work looking like a reincarnation of Janis Joplin, my boss is supportive and just wants me to be myself and that is important for me and my creativity.

Do you find that your style influences your work as a graphic designer or that your work influences your style?

I would say that my style definitely inspires my work. I like anything a bit offbeat, artistic and eccentric and I feel that all of that manifests itself through my work. When it comes to designing wallpaper, we try to create products diverse enough to capture everyone’s unique style but I do find that my personal style is visible throughout all of my designs.

Did living in another country change your perception of style?

Absolutely. It is impossible to travel and return the same person as you were before. Personally, just being exposed to so many different cultures and seeing what they find to be beautiful has altered the way I see beauty. I feel that I pick up bits of style from all of the countries I’ve visited or lived in but the ones with the most direct impact on my style would have to be India and Australia. I do have to give a shout out to the Aussies though, they have the grooviest style I’ve ever seen!

As a yogi, does the spiritual mindset play into your everyday look?

I imagine that it does whether I am fully conscious of it or not. I often wear kyanite or other balancing stones around my neck so that definitely plays into my everyday look. One thing I am aware of is colors and textures. I know I feel best wearing earth tones and natural fibers like cotton.

Has your style evolved drastically since you were a model?

It definitely has! My style was very different while I was modeling. I feel like a tried harder to fit into the fashion trends and be “fashionable” whereas now I just kind of march to the beat of my own drum.

Where are some of your favorite places in Houston to shop?

Thrift stores all of the way. Houston has a really good thrift store scene. Goodwill is a classic, but I also really like Replay Vintage Goods and Retropolis in the Heights.

What is the one go-to product you always have on you?

Lavender essential oil and coconut oil. I have some in my purse, car and some in my drawer at work. I use coconut oil for my wild hair, for my face and I even eat a spoonful or put it on toast. It has so many health benefits and there are so many things you can do with it. It is a must!

Something I always wear is rings. I will always have rings on almost every finger. I collect them when I travel. My favorite turquoise ring I scored while driving through a Navajo reservation in New Mexico. Also, I was recently gifted a lovely Tissot watch from a friend who was working in Switzerland and I never take that off either. I am always running late so it is a necessity!

Name a makeup product that you swear by.

A friend recently introduced me to highlighter and it has been revolutionary! It instantly makes me feel like I just stepped off the beaches of Brazil. I use the highlighter from Too Faced called Papa Don’t Peach.

What advice would you give to readers about how to own your personal look and be confident?

I would say the most important thing is to be comfortable. When you are truly comfortable in your own skin and what you are wearing then confidence will radiate out of you. And also don’t believe what “they say.” If you want to have colorful hair or wear a paper bag as a dress just go for it, own it, love it, and love yourself. Because the hottest trends and styles will change every year but loving yourself is the best look that there is, and that is something that will never go out of style.
