Mark your calendars, Houston. STRUT, the secret Facebook group where local fashionistas strut their stuff, is hosting its first-ever series of runway shows this summer. The Summer A La Mode events kick off on June 17, with additional shows the following four Saturdays for a total of five weeks of summer style.

“As an organization that wants to represent designers, models, photographers, and the like in Houston, we wanted to put as many in the spotlight as possible,” said STRUT co-founder Dick Clarke.

Week 1 of Summer A La Mode will feature local menswear designer Jamel Hawk and high-end streetwear reseller Imperial Houston. Artist Tim Pellerin of Danger Longhorn and Tereza Suessman of Tereza Suessman Designs will be featured in the second STRUT installment on June 24.

The following Saturday, July 1, will belong to Gin Martini Designs, a Houston-based design house whose goal is to “grow Houston into a fashion capital by building a community of art queens and performers,” and self-described underdog Zainab Olagunju of Newbox. 8 Palms by Brittney Anele and photographer Jesse Greene are showcasing their art at the fourth show on July 8, where Milan Blocks will be selling accessories. The fifth show line-up has yet to be finalized, but interested parties can stay tuned to the news via the Facebook group.

“We want to create an environment where you can have fun, mingle with local fashion lovers and watch as local talent does what they do best,” said Clarke.

All five Summer A La Mode shows will take place at Allen’s Place, 114 Main Street. Tickets (available here for the June 17 show and here for week two on June 24), and here for are $10 per show, but recessionistas can join the fun, too—entry is free before 9 p.m.
