Retro or ruffled, these suits are all ready to make a splash.

With the official start of summer just over a week away, it's time to make sure you're prepared to cool off from the brutal Texas heat with a splash in the pool. Every woman needs a bathing suit that makes her feel cool, comfortable, and beautiful, and this summer is the perfect excuse to find a new one. For our money, it'll come in one of these five styles that are making waves this season.

'70s-Style Smocked Tops

Whether you're a '70s flower child at heart or a modern-day millennial, the smocked tops of yore are making a comeback, and this time, it's waterproof. The look typically pairs with a bandeau cut and multi-colored smock stitching across the front. Great for all sizes, this style top offers more coverage than your typical halter.

High-Waisted Retro Suits

A high-waisted retro bikini is the perfect place for one- and two-piece lovers to meet in the middle. If you've ever browsed a collection of vintage summer Vogues, you've likely spotted one of these suits, an ideal option for anyone who wants to wear a bikini but prefers the coverage of a typical one-piece.

Peekaboo One-Pieces

This trend takes the classic one-piece to a whole new level. A flirty twist on a traditional favorite, cut-outs–typically over the abdomen–with contrasting patterns or colors are an easy way to make a bold statement. Perfect for those who want to try something new, peekaboo suits carry the added bonus of all one-pieces in that they flatter every body type.

Ruffles Galore

If you're looking for girly and fun, simply trim a plain bathing suit with dainty ruffles for an added dose of style without too much extravagance. Ruffles have come and gone from fashion's rotating list of trends for decades, and this summer, they're on-again. Designers have added ruffles to all cuts and styles of swimwear, so there's sure to be one that strikes your fancy.

'80s High Cut

This look throws it back to the '80s–minus the shoulder pads and tragic hair. High-cut swimwear bottoms are making a comeback and taking notes from Pamela Anderson’s classic look in Baywatch. The high-cut bottom typically rests above the hips and creates a deep V, meant for the risk-taker who's not afraid of showing a little more skin.
