Houston parents are already eagerly marking down the days until school is back in session. Over tax-free weekend, MD Anderson Children's Cancer Center and the Galleria gave kids a reason to be just as excited.

The mall and the Med Center came together for the seventh year in the row to present a back-to-school fashion show. This year, guests lined the runway—and scored a complimentary swag bag—as they watched Houston Life host Courtney Zavala MC the event.

Each year, pediatric cancer patients from MD Anderson strut their stuff in the season’s most fashionable ensembles. Showing of kiddie couture from brands like Crazy 8, Pure, Buckle, Topshop, and Macy’s, the models are all nearing or at the end of their cancer recovery.

Besides treating children at every stage of recovery, MD Anderson also provides support and services that make life as normal as possible for these remarkable kids. It's through those services that an extraordinary model was able to take to the catwalk: Using a robot and live streaming technology, 12-year-old leukemia patient Kaylyn White was able to take her turn down the runway all from the comfort of her hospital room. Though in her room, Kaylyn could hear and see the crowd that cheered for her and her fellow models.

The catwalk isn't the only place this cutting edge tech is utilized. According to Dr.  Wykesha Hayes, pediatric coordinator for MD Anderson Children's Cancer Center, kids like Kaylyn are able to use robots like the one in the fashion show to attend school while getting treatments that require isolation.

While the former patients-turned-fashionistas got to enjoy the spotlight, like other models, they unfortunately did not get to take home all the cool loot they donned for the show. On the plus side, they did get a discount from each store featured in the fashion show—that adds up to a great deal no matter what grade you're heading into this year.
