River Oaks District Labor Day Celebration
When: Through Tuesday, September 2
Where: River Oaks District, 4444 Westheimer
What: The luxury shopping and dining district celebrates the long weekend with in-store and restaurant promotions and specials—"dozens and dozens of Labor Day sales," marketing materials promise, to stock up on beautiful things before fall officially arrives. Expect sales at popular stores like Joie, Intermix, and Saint Bernard; an exclusive preview of NARS' holiday collection with mini-makeovers; half-off select wine bottles at Toulouse and Le Colonial; and the "All Together Now" Beatles-inspired capsule collection at Stella McCartney.
Come on in, the water's fine.
JAWS on the Water
When: Saturday, August 31; doors at 4 p.m., movie at sundown
Where: Balmoral Crystal Clear Lagoon, 15808 Crystal Terrace Dr., Humble
What: We're breaking our own To-Doux List rules with this entry, but it's too good to exclude. It may be (almost) September, but it's hot as hell, and the best way to watch a movie is definitely whilst floating. Drive-ins pale in comparison to the opportunity to catch a flick while sipping beer on an inner tube, your feet dangling in the water. For $45, you can do just that when Alamo Drafthouse's Rolling Roadshow comes to the much-loved Balmoral Crystal Clear Lagoon. Expect food trucks, multiple outdoor bars, and plenty of time to swim before the movie starts at sundown. Oh, what's on the screen, you ask? JAWS. Dun dun dun.

Houston's 183rd Birthday Party
When: Saturday, August 31; 4:30–8 p.m.
Where: Connally Plaza behind The Heritage Society, 1100 Bagby St.
What: Happy birthday to HOU! The Heritage Society and Mister McKinney's Historic Houston are throwing a party to celebrate our fine city's 183rd year, complete with live music, free food from Bollo Woodfired Pizza and beer from Saint Arnold. Mayor Turner will cut the cake—from Three Brother's Bakery—and Council Member Robert Gallegos from downtown's District 1 will serve as honorary chair. There are free tours of the The Heritage Society homes, plus the air-conditioned museum will be open at no charge. Mister McKinney's open-air Houston History Bus offers free educational bus tours of historic downtown at 2, 3, and 7 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis. Plus, THS' new hotel neighbor, C. Baldwin, offers a special $99/person (plus tax) room rate for the occasion. By the way, Houston, you don't look a day over 70.
1999: A great year for the boys.
Backstreet Boys
When: Saturday, August 31; 8 p.m.
Where: Toyota Center
What: Backstreet's back ALRIGHT with their biggest arena tour in 18 years, and we here at the To-Doux List could not be more thrilled. Sources say the boys give the people what they want on the DNA Tour, as the set consists mainly—thankfully—of the classics, interspersed with truncated versions of new material (like HitClips!). If you want to feel positively ancient, revel in the fact that the opening act, a 16-year-old country singer, is Brian's son. Are we still holding out hope for Nick Carter? Perhaps. Did we also spend $158 on a ticket to the show, which will we attend alone? Indeed. KTBSPA—real ones know.
