Retail Roundup: CBD, Luxury Denim, and (More) Cowboy Boots Arrive in H-Town
As of today—the biggest shopping day of the year (no biggie)—we have three more places to spend our hard-earned money, ranging from finely made cowboy boots in Rice Village to buttery soft luxury denim in River Oaks. Let the brick-and-mortar bonanza continue.

Tecovas
At 8 a.m. today, Austin-based Tecovas unveils its first Houston store in Rice Village, which becomes the brand's fifth physical location in all and second-largest to date. Though founded in 2015, the direct-to-consumer purveyor of predominantly cowboy boots opened all of its stores within the last year. Testing the waters, it found great success in the Bayou City, with large activations at the Rodeo and, earlier this year, a warehouse sale meant to last two days that ended half-way through the first when thousands of Houstonians lined up before the doors even opened and proceeded to buy out all the inventory.
In fact, reps say, Houston quickly became Tecovas' largest market, so it's only right a permanent location is coming online here. The 3,500-square-foot University Blvd. store, designed by Michael Hsu Office of Architecture, will offer all sizes and styles of inventory, plus personalized, complimentary in-store embossing of leather accessories, free boot shines, and refreshments including Topo Chico, beer, bourbon, and craft cocktails during weekend events.
2400 University Blvd., Suite 100; open Monday–Saturday, 10 a.m.–9 p.m. and Sunday, 11 a.m.–6 p.m. (holiday hours vary).

The Apothecary
If you hadn't heard, CBD is, like, so hot right now. And though this Houston-based CBD boutique won't make its grand opening official until December 3, when Houston East End Chamber of Commerce leaders will cut the ribbon, it's opening the doors of its flagship location early for Black Friday. From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., shoppers can get a sneak peek at the store's curated selection of top-shelf CBD products for wellness and beauty, with door-busters 'till noon and free, three-minute CBD oil massages from 11 to 2.
CEO and founder Samantha Miller wholeheartedly believes in the healing power of CBD, which has been shown to help some people with everything from chronic pain to skincare concerns. With The Apothecary, Miller wants to make what she calls the "life-changing, non-prescription, non-hallucinogenic benefits" more widely accessible via oils, tinctures, capsules, edibles, bath and beauty products, and a signature, lab-tested product line for pets adorably called The Apawthecary.
1208 W. Gray St.; open 10 a.m.–6 p.m. Black Friday; ribbon cutting Tuesday, Dec. 3, 10:30 a.m.

Frame
This London/L.A. lifestyle brand best known for its luxury denim is the latest tenant at the bustling River Oaks District. Frame officially opened its tenth retail location here last Saturday in the form of a 2,042-square-foot, California-chic space filled with a full selection of the brand's women's and men's ready-to-wear and accessories—including leather handbags, like the newly launched Les Cubes, and delicious-smelling denim spray and wash crafted in collaboration with The Laundress (did you know you're never supposed to actually wash your jeans?).
Like the label itself, the store is fresh, clean, and minimalistic, and it boasts custom sustainable furniture designed with Culver City-design studio Atelier de Troupe. In the spirit of its growing commitment to sustainability, Frame also recently launched Sustainable Denim and Cashmere collections. The River Oaks District store features a very practical denim rack, where you can actually touch and feel the full library Frame's styles—from deep-indigo raw-edge skinnies to sparkly, metallic lambskin leather—without having to awkwardly unfurl them from the beautifully folded gridded wall.
4444 Westheimer Rd., Suite D110; open Monday–Saturday, 10 a.m.–7 p.m. and Sunday, noon–6 p.m.
