Sugar Plum Market
When: Friday, November 8 (9 a.m.–8 p.m.) and Saturday, November 9 (9 a.m.–5 p.m.)
Where: Stafford Centre Performing Arts Theatre and Convention Center
What: Consider this annual holiday shopping soiree organized by the Fort Bend Junior Service League your official pregame for the Nutcracker Market later this month and start building your stamina now. This particular one-stop-holiday-shopping extravaganza gathers more than 100 vendors from across Texas under one roof selling everything from hand-made candles to high-end clothes, all in the name of fundraising for Fort Bend County charities.
Celebrate all-things retro this weekend.
Houston Vintage Festival
When: Friday, November 8 (7–11 p.m. preview party) and Saturday, November 9 (11 a.m.–6 p.m.)
Where: 1940 Air Terminal Museum, Hobby Airport
What: Feel like you were born in the wrong decade? Celebrate the days of yore and all-things vintage at this annual festival with tons of shopping, live performances, a retro car show, costume contests, food trucks, and more, fittingly held at this historic art-deco building. It all begins with Friday night's preview party and fashion show, "A Night in Old Hollywood" (tickets: $35 pre-sale, $40 at door); Saturday brings more festivities (garb from all decades is welcome) and the not-to-be-missed market ($5 pre-sale, $10 at door), plus the coronation of a new queen at the fabulous Ms. Houston Vintage Pageant.

The D10
When: Saturday, November 9; 10 a.m.–3 p.m.
Where: Rice Stadium, 6100 Main St.
What: Houston's only NFL Scouting Combine-style decathlon to fund children's cancer research returns this weekend, once again drawing a slew of competitors from across Houston's economic spectrum (O&G, real estate, banking, etc.) that we like to call "executive athletes." Watching them tackle events like the 400-meter run, vertical jump, and 40-yard dash all to support MD Anderson—the D10 has raised over $1.1 million for the cause since inception—is the best kind of spectator sport.
Christmas at the Galleria: magical.

Galleria Ice Spectacular and Tree Lighting
When: Saturday, November 9; 6 p.m.
Where: Ice at The Galleria, 5085 Westheimer
What: You know it's officially the holiday season when the Galleria brings out it's 55-foot tree decked in more than 450,000 twinkling lights and 5,500 ornaments—which, by the way, takes 50 people more than 24 hours of work to install, and they started hand-fluffing more than 1,000 branches back in September (no joke). Skating Santa Claus will light the thing following a 45-minute show featuring a performance by Gyth Rigdon, The Voice season 16 runner-up, plus a spectacular group of four professional skaters. And then...fireworks! Let the holiday shopping commence!
Farm, but make it fashion.

Fashion in the Fields
When: Sunday, November 10; 11:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m.
Where: Hope Farms, 10401 Scott St.
What: Calling all chic chicks: This second-annual fashion show (and delicious, family-style brunch) is quite possibly your only chance to gawk at luxury looks (courtesy of Neiman Marcus) on a seven-acre urban farm. The high-style, laidback Recipe for Success Foundation fundraiser, chaired this year by Amanda Boffone and Elizabeth Dwyer, is the pinnacle of pastoral glam—and not to be missed. Last year's event raised more than $200,000 for the cause.
