This year's annual holiday party was a special one for eclectic upscale boutique Sloan/Hall. Not only was it celebrating a new location—its third, inside the posh new downtown hotel C. Baldwin—but it was marking a major milestone: a quarter-century in business.

The retailer opened its doors in San Antonio almost exactly 25 years ago to the day of this year's holiday party—December 6, 1994 and December 5, 2019, respectively. In 1998, four years after its debut, Sloan/Hall opened up shop in River Oaks, where it's been a Westheimer fixture ever since.

Proprietors Marcus Sloan and Shannon Hall offer a curated mix of lifestyle goods, from candles and jewelry to art and apparel. The 600-square-foot showroom in C. Baldwin operates as a slightly edited version of the River Oaks store, with a focus on contemporary Texas design plus national and international favorites in a constantly rotating mix of small gifts, jewelry, fashion, and designer offerings.

And they're not just talking the talk: Sloan/Hall devotes at least 50 percent of its inventory to Texas-made or designed products, including by Houstonians (or Houston natives) Jessica Meyer (BulletGirl jewelry), Cesar Galindo (Kimora Lee Simmons ready-to-wear), Sonya Dawson (Dawson-Hellman pajamas), and Elizabeth Purpich.

"We can't think of a better way to celebrate 25 years in business than by opening our third outlet in a hotel that honors a visionary woman who was instrumental in the early development of Houston," Hall said. "The vision and painstaking detail that went into this project is an inspiration. To that end, we look to provide our guests with a one-of-a-kind retail experience that includes special events and trunk shows featuring the brands we love."

This month's holiday party and anniversary celebration featured cocktails and bites from C. Baldwin's buzzy new restaurant, Rosalie, and a jazz performance by Kristine Mills and her trio.

"The addition of Sloan/Hall at C. Baldwin has created a truly unique downtown retail destination that will not only serve the needs of travelers and visitors to the hotel; its unique and coveted offerings will simultaneously entice the people who live and work in the area," said C. Baldwin GM Maggie Rosa. "Shannon and Marcus have tirelessly created a space that brings a much-needed upscale shopping experience to the heart of downtown Houston."

Sloan/Hall at C. Baldwin, 400 Dallas St.; open Mon.–Sat. 11 a.m.–7 p.m., closed Sun.
