Watching your dog run through the backyard or even taking them for a nice stroll through the neighborhood are solid pup pastimes, but every once in a while their legs could use a bit more open space. When planning outside activities, it is always predicated on what the weather looks like—because for Houston it is constantly changing. As a true companion, your dog deserves an adventure outside of the four walls of your home and to make some new friends to run wild with. A day off the leash sounds pretty pup-tastic to me!

Houston may be a busy bustling city but here are five spacious parks that are paw-some for you and your doggie companion to visit and enjoy refreshing moments outside.

Johnny Steele Dog Park

2929 Allen Pkwy

Located in the heart of Downtown in Buffalo Bayou Park, the two-acre site is accompanied by other play areas, monuments, and memorials for a grand outdoor experience. The grounds feature recreational spaces for small and large dogs, a pond, shaded structures, and water faucets for owners and tail-waggers. Visitors are also encouraged to explore other areas such as the Nature Play area and Eleanor Tinsley Park.

Danny Jackson Bark Park

4838 ½ Loop Central Dr

This 2.76-acre dog park has plenty of greenery for your pup to have an off-the-leash experience. There are assigned areas fit for both smaller and bigger dogs to have owner-free fun. This park includes doggie ponds, shaded seating, and a dog washing area for a quick scrub after a day in the sun.

Millie Bush Dog Park

16101 Westheimer Pkwy

The best amenity of this park is its convenient location adjacent to the George Bush Park Nature Area. With beautiful views of its neighboring hike trails and surrounded by forestry, this park is paw-fect for you and your four-legged friend for relaxation in the sun and fun at one of the swimming holes. You can even go for a hike along its trails and take a journey to Buffalo Bayou.

The bone-shaped doggy swimming pools are a hit at Congressman Bill Archer Dog Park.

Congressman Bill Archer Dog Park

3201 Hwy 6 North

Encompassing 17 acres of grassland, this park is the biggest featured on this list. The open range is perfect for off-leash fun and 3 acres of this land are sectioned off for dogs of smaller size. It offers playgrounds for the kids, sports areas, pup showers, agility activity courses, and a bone-shaped doggy swimming pool!

Ervan Chew Dog Park

4502 Dunlavy St.

This 9,000 square feet fenced-off park is more your peaceful, friendly neighborhood recreational spot. Located off I-69, it's perfect for your hounds and kids. It has space for play, a splash pad for both the pups and kids, and picnic areas for the adults to have their own relaxing fun in the shade. There is also a neighboring Siphon Coffee perfect for grabbing a quick snack or a drink.
