If the classic Dairy Ashford Roller Rink is just a little too indoorsy for you, you'll want to take advantage of the newest rink set up at Discovery Green this year: No, not the ice rink—winter is over. We're talking about The Rink: Rolling at Discovery Green, the temporary roller rink currently set up over Kinder Lake. And coming up soon are three reasons to lace up those skates if you haven't yet.
Rainbow and Roll
Friday, March 17, 6–10 p.m.
Originally planned for January 20 as "Rainbow on Ice" and rescheduled due to inclement weather, Mayor Sylvester Turner’s LGBTQ advisory board is hosting this free, city-wide pride celebration tomorrow evening. Drag family Crawford Nation will be performing as some of the community's most beloved artists, including Janet Jackson, Lady Gaga, Beyoncé and Destiny's Child. The evening is family-friendly, open to the public and—best of all—free!
Cheap Skate Night
Monday, March 20, 5–10 p.m.
You made it through another Monday! Celebrate with half-price skate rentals, only $6 per person, and use the money you saved to treat yourself to happy hour at nearby, newly opened Brasserie du Parc. Here, during the daily "Green Hour" from 4 to 6 p.m., glasses of wine are $6 each, while a decadent ham, mushroom and Gruyére crepe is only $5.
We Love the 90's
Tuesday, March 21, 6–10 p.m.
If you don't get your weekly fill of the '90s at Barbarella's on Thursday nights, head here for your fill of couples skating as DJ Mohawk Steve spins all the Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, Beck, Bush and Blur you can handle. Tickets are $12, which includes skate rentals, but does not include chokers, belly Ts, overalls, hair gel or JNCO jeans.
The Rink: Rolling at Discovery Green, thru March 25. Mon–Thur, 5–10 p.m. Fri, 5–9 p.m. Sat (and school holidays), 11 a.m.–11 p.m., Sun 11 a.m.–9 p.m. $12 ($14 if purchased online)
