A Guide to LGBTQ+-Affirming Care and Resources in Houston

Find stigma-free care at these Houston organizations.
While there’s never been a time in America where it's been easy being LGBTQ+, there were a few years there after the nationwide legalization of gay marriage when things seemed to be moving up. But with the recent rise in antigay rhetoric from politicians and members of the media (not to mention a tsunami of antigay bills), it seems we’ve taken more than a few steps backward.
Fortunately, Houston is a very LGBTQ+ friendly city, and queer Houstonians looking for resources, whether that's in areas of health, wellness, social services, or community safe spaces, have plenty of organizations from which to choose.
Anti-Violence Program
Montrose
The Anti-Violence Program at the Montrose Center provides support services for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, trafficking, and hate crimes regardless of sexual orientation. The program also includes a Crisis Help section with a switchboard providing crisis counseling and intervention around the clock, including holidays. Any Texas resident facing an emotional or domestic crisis is welcome to call and speak with volunteers and staff who are trained to provide information and resources. Other offerings include advocacy, accompaniment, counseling, compensation, education, and an emergency shelter.
