Sketches: Nick Greer on the Art of Performance (VIDEO)

After years of practice, a local musician learns to let go.

Nick Greer confesses that when he sits down at a restaurant a part of him still feels like he should be taking orders. It's only been eight months since the virtuoso pianist and local hip-hop collaborator was able to toss his table-waiting apron aside and dive into music full-time.

Now he's finally referring to himself as a "musician," which seems fitting for someone who's able to play piano, soulfully croon and rap in a single sitting, blending it all together into a sound that is not only absorbing, but uniquely Houston. Greer released his debut album in March and is working on another single for release in October. We sat down with him to discuss his creative process. To see it in action, catch him and his trademark clown nose live at The Corkscrew Piano Lounge every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night.
