Kidpendence Day at the Children's Museum

If you're like us, you put off making Fourth of July plans until the last minute and are now scrambling to line something up. Not to worry—Houstonia has you covered. To supplement the personality-based event guide in our July issue, and our story about the circuses at Discovery Green, here are five more excellent suggestions to make this Independence Day a success.

Kidpendence Day

If you’re worried about your little ones mixing with firecrackers, then ditch the sparklers and head down to the Children’s Museum. A mini-parade by the High Steppers Brass Band will have your mini-me jamming. At 1:45 p.m., something called the Elephant Toothpaste Patriotic Geysers Burst is scheduled to take place. We have no idea what that is exactly, but we’re betting kids will love it.

July 4 from 1:30-5. $9; $8 for seniors & military. Children 1 & under free. Children’s Museum of Houston, 1500 Binz St. 713-522-1138.

Crawfish Party

Beaucoup’s Bar & Grill is serving crawfish for $25 a platter this Fourth. When you’re not getting your grub on, play flip cup and beer pong with new friends and old. Perfect for Louisianans and wanna-be Louisianans.

July 4 from 1-5. $25. Beaucoup Bar & Grill, 3102 Old Spanish Trail. 713-384-0927.

Celebrate on wheels—literally. This tour bus takes its passengers to BRC Gastropub for some good eats and then to Buffalo Bayou Brewery for some suds. For tradition’s sake there will be fireworks to end the tour, as well as a DJ and more beer. Because, well, beer.

July 4 at 5. $60. Silver Street Studios, 525 Silver Street. 713-863-9283.

Pasadena's Annual 4th Fest Event

Fireworks may be the least exciting feature of Pasadena’s 4th Fest. This family-friendly event features live entertainment by Radio Disney, a water balloon war, a barbecue, and something called the Kidzone—a place for kids to make wax hands, see a magician, and get water tattoos. What else could you want?

July 4 from 4-10. Pasadena Convention Center, 7902 Fairmont Pkwy, Pasadena.

The self-proclaimed biggest parking lot party of the South is coming to Houston for Independence Day. Sure, having paint thrown on you has nothing to do with America winning its independence, but this festival will be full of energy and fun vibes.  Remember to leave your best clothes at home because this event’s going to be an explosion of color.

July 4 from 8-6. Presale $15; at the door $20. 1700 Almeda Genoa Rd. 713-226-9532.
