Must-See Exhibit: Holy Barbarians: Beat Culture on the West Coast

The Menil Collection spotlights relatively unknown artists from the Beat Generation. (Sorry, Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg—you’ve had your turn.) From George Herms to Jay DeFeo, see works by these West Coast “Beatniks” in a variety of mediums, including assemblage art, sculptures and paintings.

Showcasing the best crafters in the Lone Star State, this exhibition offers up 53 works by 38 artists and includes sculpture, jewelry, even installations.

Must-See Exhibit: Bittersweet Harvest: The Bracero Program, 1942-1964

Holocaust Museum Houston will present their first ever bilingual exhibit this December. Presented entirely in both Spanish and English, the exhibit explores the largest guest worker program in the history of the United States. Bittersweet Harvest was organized by the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History in partnership with the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service. Funding was provided by the Smithsonian Latino Center.

Must-See Exhibit: A Traveling Show

Over eight years, Matt Keegan and Kay Rosen sent artwork, photos, clippings and other items to each other through the mail in dozens of packages. Now, they showcase their unique correspondence along with paintings, sculptures and drawings, at CAMH.
