Out of all the times a movie script has called for a major American city to be destroyed, the greater Houston area has only been victim a few times—and we consider those to be an honor:

Robocop ncojfa

Robocop 2 (1990)

The city getting trashed is supposed to be Detroit but is really Houston, where it was filmed, as the skyline makes clear.

Independence Day (1996)

President Bill Pullman drops a nuke on the city in an ill-advised attempt to destroy one of the alien ships hovering above Houston.

Rubicon (2010)

The AMC thriller sees Galveston blown up by way of an oil tanker/shady international cabal.
