So, let's say you missed last week's Greek Festival. Settle for the next best (some would say better) thing with a celebration of the culture on the opposite end of the Ionian Sea. The festival includes an adult grape stomp contest, a pasta eating contest, a bocce tournament and plenty of wine and music. It's basically a carbfest, but, then again, we're about say arrivederci to swimsuit season. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Dream Machine 2017

With a warehouse full of vendors, installations, live music, and an open bar courtesy of folks such as Karbach and Lone Star, consider this nightlong art party your boozier (and budget-friendly) Day for Night warm up. Hosted by local collective Bambull Black, Dream Machine hopes to "send you through the apex of time and space into the spritual ethernet of sight, touch and sound" with the musical stylings of acts like Children of Pop and GRRRLPARTS. Be advised: "wild attire" is encouraged.

Bayou City Art Festival
Oct. 14-15 | Downtown Houston
For the 46th year, the Art Colony Association will gather more than 300 artists across 19 disciplines in the shadow of the Heritage Center and other iconic parts of the Houston skyline. The event has all the requisite festival fare of food and music, and proceeds go to a variety of non-profits including Fresh Arts, Lawndale Art Center, and others; more than $3.5 million have been raised over the decades.

Thru Oct. 29 | Stages Repertory Theatre
As we chronicled in our September issue, Houston-based Stages teamed up with New York's One Year Lease Theater Company for a shot-for-shot reimagining of the iconic 1973 Battle of the Sexes tennis match. “We thought all of a sudden: This is a Houston-born historic event that more people than watched the Super Bowl that year witnessed,” Natalie Lomonte, a Sugar Land native and movement director for One Year Lease, told Houstonia. Yes, there's a feature film competing for your attention, but sprinkle in a few clowns, side plots and Astrodome-like slip covers on the theater seats, and Stages offers an entirely different spectacle.
