With a guest list of athletes, music makers, and local celebrities, we wish we could pull up a seat at this table.

Houston street artist Donkeeboy works on the new mural at Original Ninfa's Uptown.

Picture this: You walk into a soiree stacked with Houston’s finest and immediately get swept into a debate with J.J. Watt and Dr. Michael Debakey over the best defensive lines in NFL historyBeyoncé sits with Simone Biles across the room, heads bent as they flip through pics of the superstar’s kids on her cellphone. Next to them, Mama Ninfa Rodriguez Laurenzo talks with a fully-suited NASA astronaut about making her business the official queso provider of the upcoming missions to Mars.

This is the imaginary Houston dinner party that the Original Ninfa's Uptown has brought to life in visual form at its Galleria-area location with the help of Houston street artist Alex “Donkeeboy” Roman Jr. Houstonians will be able to pose with the crew from Space City for years to come when the new mural work makes its public debut at Ninfa’s on Feb 22—which also happens to be National Margarita Day (would that make Feb 23 National Hangover Day?).

Donkeeboy, whose colorful murals around town are regular fixtures on Instagram, says he worked with Ninfa’s brass to narrow down the roster of hometown heroes the mural would feature.

“It was cool to have that nostalgic feeling, like with Mama Ninfa and Marvin Zindler, and into the new,” the street artist tells Houstonia. “There are so many people to come out of this city. We definitely bring a lot to the table.”

There could have been way more Houston celebrities included, but due to spacing issues the list was narrowed down to this illustrious crew, which also features Astros second baseman José Altuve, newsman Marvin Zindler, rapper Bun B, Hoston Rocket James Harden, and entrepreneur Mattress Mack. Of course, additions could always be made later. After all, Houston has never been short on prolific personalities and icons worthy of a mural.

“As the saying goes, ‘Art is never finished, only abandoned,’” Donkeeboy teases.

And as for his own dinner party, Donkeeboy says he’s already picked out his preferred dinner dates. "If I’m dreaming, Beyoncé, of course, he says, "but I think it would be awesome to chop it up with Mattress Mack.”
