The Queen of Tejano Music, Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, would’ve turned 50 this month, so it’s only fitting that Netflix dropped a teaser trailer for Selena: The Series Part Two Monday.
It’s short, only 1:14 minutes, and we don’t get any information about the plot—although we can assume it’ll follow her meteoric rise to fame, her death, and her legacy—but there’s enough to excite even the casual Selena fan (are there any?).
The camera pans around Selena, played by Walking Dead-alum Christian Serratos, and her band (husband Chris Pérez, sister Suzette Quintanilla, and brother A.B. Quintanilla, played by Jesse Posey, Noemi Gonzalez, and Gabriel Chavarria, respectively) as they play “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom” to twinkling lights on a nondescript stage.
We can’t know for certain, of course, but based on Serratos’s jumpsuit in the trailer (yes, that jumpsuit) and the sound of a roaring crowd, we can only assume the concert is her final RodeoHouston appearance at the Astrodome in 1995.
Selena: The Series Part One premiered on Netflix in December 2020 to mixed reviews. Fans took issue on small inaccuracies, like those wigs, and the overall focus on Selena’s family in the first nine episodes (if you can't remember, Part One ended with Selena's father, played by Ricardo Chavira, throwing Pérez out of the band and the tour bus after discovering the guitarist and singer has been secretly dating). But for the folks nervous about the next nine episodes, remember, the Quintanilla family gave Netflix their blessing for the project, so we can be confident that Part Two will showcase more of the Texas icon.
Selena: The Series Part Two will premiere on May 4. Watch Part One and learn more at netflix.com.
