Nearly seven years ago, the cowboy rode away (and strait to a Las Vegas residency) on his farewell tour, but, y’all, the king is coming back for RodeoHouston’s 90th anniversary.

On Tuesday, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo announced that country music legend George Strait, will headline next year’s rodeo’s final night on March 20.

“What better way to celebrate the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo’s 90th anniversary than with a special, concert-only performance by the ‘King of Country’ music himself,” Rodeo president and CEO Chris Boleman said in a statement, which released on Strait's 69th birthday. “After a couple of particularly challenging years, our thousands of dedicated volunteers simply can’t wait to welcome everyone back to the Rodeo grounds for a Texas-sized celebration of Western heritage that will be well worth the wait.”

Strait last graced the NRG stage back in 2019 when he, along with Texas country legends Lyle Lovett and Robert Earl Keen as guests, sang to a record crowd of 80,108. Over the past four decades, the “Troubadour” has performed at RodeoHouston dozens of times—next year’s performance will be his 31st.

Tickets for the show go on sale June 24. And considering how quickly Strait’s shows sell out, tickets are limited to four per person.

A complete 2022 concert lineup will be announced at a later date. Learn more here
