Main Street Theater Will Welcome Back Fans in Person This Fall

The 2021–2022 season, which features six regular season shows and seven kid-centric offerings, kicks off in October.

Skyler Sinclair as Lydia Bennet.

After spending year 45 away from its space in Rice Village and the Midtown Arts & Theater Center Houston, the folks at Main Street Theater couldn’t be more excited to welcome back audiences for their 46th season.

Sure, they met some audience members in cyberspace, including its New York Times and Wall Street Journal-recognized premiere production of The Book of Magdalene, but it just wasn't the same.

“There are not words to describe how happy we are to be returning to the stage this fall,” said Rebecca Greene Udden, Main Street's founding artistic director, in a statement. “There is nothing quite like sharing a play together live and in the same space.”

Like most years, MST’s got two seasons: one six-show season for adults fans and one with seven kid-focused productions (including two add-ons). But each 2021–2022 offering is sure to feed your theater-loving souls.

Reopening the curtain for MST is the regional premiere of Darwin in Malibu, which finds the revolutionary (and evolutionary … get it?) scientist chill-axing at a beach house in sunny California—until his vacay is interrupted by visitors from his past. Other highlights in the upcoming season include Joan of Arc reimagining, Mother of the Maid; children’s book-inspired Dragons Love Tacos; and post-apocalyptic comedy Dog Act by Liz Duffy Adams, whose newest work, Born with Teeth, is getting its world premiere at the Alley this season.

Whether you're into whodunnits, cool cats, or literary classics-turned-stage-favorites, you'll want a seat at this theatrical party.
