The halls will soon be alive with the sound of music. That’s because Da Camera is making its return to in-person concerts, with a slate of chamber and jazz concerts that will have music lovers’ hearts soaring.
“We are immensely grateful to all our loyal supporters over the past year whose generosity allows us to return to live music in a position of strength, and with a renewed commitment to excellence and diversity,” Artistic Director Sarah Rothenberg said in a statement. “Da Camera’s mix of timeless masterpieces, innovative young voices, and trailblazing artists promises a season of inspiration and renewal for us all.”
The new season kicks off October 29 with a night of Chopin, courtesy of pianist Garrick Ohlsson, and the music keeps going all the way through May with other major guests, like world-renowned violinist Christian Tetzlaff, Trinidadian trumpet extraordinaire Etienne Charles, and Grammy-winning jazz guitarist Pat Metheny, who drops by in February.
Additional highlights to the tuneful season include Houston native Jason Moran’s new project celebrating unsung jazz hero, James Reese Europe; a new work from MacArthur “Genius” composer Tyshawn Sorey, commissioned by Da Camera and Rothko Chapel in honor of the latter’s 50th anniversary; and a six-evening Beethoven string quartet cycle with Elias String Quartet.
Now that’s how you come back in swinging style.
