What to Eat, Drink, and Do in Houston This Weekend: August 1

Deciding where to go and what to do can feel overwhelming, but in a city like Houston, you don’t have to look far. From bold bites to buzzy bars to uniquely Houston pastimes, there’s always something worth exploring. That’s where Houstonia comes in. In this weekly series, our editors share their favorite places to eat, drink, and “Hou”—so you can spend less time planning and more time enjoying the city.
Eat
For a feast that gives back: Houston Restaurant Weeks
Multiple locations
Need we remind you? Houston Restaurant Weeks, one of Houston’s most anticipated fundraising events, is back for its 22nd year, with more than 400 participating restaurants offering prix fixe meals at a deal. Diners can score dinners for $39 or $55, and lunch or brunch for $25. A portion of the cost of each meal will be donated to the Houston Food Bank. Need some help deciding on where to dine? Food and travel editor Sofia Gonzalez has you covered with a rundown of some of the newcomers, the can’t-miss bargains, and the one brunch menu you’ve got to try.
Drink
For a cocktail that doubles as dessert: Good God, Nadine’s
Washington Avenue
With its promise of a robust food menu, creative drinks, and “mild cursing,” this new Washington Avenue cocktail bar is a cool place to unwind any time of the week. The cast-iron cornbread, sesame guacamole, and $7 smashburger deal (before 7pm) are enough to get any diner in the door (don’t forget the hand-cut beef tallow fries!), but the drinks will make you stick around. Served in a martini glass, Nadine’s signature key lime pie cocktail is a creamy and decadent treat worthy of its namesake. For another dessert-inspired sip, try the mango sticky rice, a combination of vodka, coconut milk, mango, and pandan. Don’t drink? Ask for one Nadine’s nonalcoholic Freshtails.

For the ultimate block party: White Linen Night
heights
It’s time to break out your best and brightest whites. White Linen Night returns to the Heights on Saturday, bringing food and drink specials, live music, and plenty of local shopping. Need a game plan? We’ve got a guide to the events you won’t want to miss.
For a kid-friendly rave: Summer foam party at Post Houston
downtown
Post knows how to party. The Downtown hub is hosting a rooftop summer foam bash on Saturday for all ages, complete with groovy tunes and machines that spit out mango-scented foam. The fun runs from 11am to 2pm, leaving plenty of time to grab a bite at the food hall downstairs and maybe even make it home for a late afternoon nap. Tickets can be purchased online for $5, and the party goes on, rain or shine.

For feline films: Cat Video Fest at River Oaks Theatre
river oaks
The best thing about the internet has always been cat videos. When everything is awful and you need a reminder that some things in this world are wholesome and good, cat videos are always there to lend you a helping paw. River Oaks Theatre is bringing Cat Video Fest to its hallowed screens this Saturday, in honor of all the four-legged weird little guys of the world. And it’s exactly what the title promises: a compilation of the best of the best cat videos sourced from across the internet. Part of the proceeds will benefit local no-kill shelter Friends for Life. Tickets are available online for $12 or $15. —Meredith Nudo, senior culture editor
