Epic Eats at Buffalo Grille

Bringing the most important meal of the day to a whole new level.

By Amber Ambrose May 8, 2013

Breakfast has always been my favorite meal for eating at a restaurant. I don't really know why—maybe because my homemade pancakes don't have that light-and-fluffy thing going on, or maybe just because I loathe doing dishes so soon after waking.

I had an epic breakfast this weekend, one that made me want to utter a curse word very loudly (you know what I'm talking about) out of pure joy.

I didn't even mind this guy staring at me as I ate my epic meal. That's how epic it was.

The dish I had was right under my nose, hiding in plain sight at my favorite breakfast place, which I've frequented since moving to town in 2006: The Buffalo Grille on Voss.

So what is this dish, you ask? Wait for it…huevos rellenos. The title is not quite accurate, as huevos means "eggs" and rellenos means "stuffed." This is not stuffed eggs. Instead, the dish comes with two of the crispiest chile rellenos on the planet—battered, deep-fried, sausage-and-cheese stuffed anaheim chiles, to be exact—topped with cheddar and smothered in either a green sauce or spicy red salsa with refried beans, pico de gallo, and eggs, cooked over-easy and perched right on top. Just ridiculous.

I chose to have both sauces on the side and dumped the green on one half and the red on the other. The sloppy mess of egg whites, yolks, crispy batter, spicy chile, gooey cheese, sausage, and beans on each forkful went on and on until I literally felt dizzy.

Huevos Rellenos from Buffalo Grille: what it lacks in beauty, it makes up for in awesomeness.

Dizzy from enjoyment, dizzy from gluttony, also possibly dizzy from the one and a half pancakes I devoured before diving into the huevos rellenos.
