If you were to make a Venn diagram between Houston and Canada, there wouldn’t be much to add in the similarities section. Canadian transplants in H-Town must adjust to a life without snow, hockey, or poutine, and we can’t imagine a Houstonian making it through a brutal winter up north.
But finally, we can add one thing to the list: Tim Hortons. The iconic Canadian coffee chain will establish its first Texas location in Katy on September 9.
Located just off the Grand Parkway, Tim Hortons will provide Houstonians with the chain’s world-renowned original blend coffee, which is always served 20-minutes fresh. On top of that, residents can try a whole host of the chain’s other signature drinks, including Ice Capp blended frozen coffee, Red Bull-spiked TimsBoost energy infusions, and refreshers made from organic fruit juice and green tea. The location will also serve delicious, made-to-order breakfast sandwiches and hand-dipped and glazed donuts, and Timbits, the Canada-favorite donut holes that come in various flavors.
The coffee chain will kick off its Texas debut with an early-bird celebration, complete with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by the Katy Chamber of Commerce and a giveaway of free coffee for a year for the first 50 guests to arrive. KHMX 96.5 will add to the fun with a live broadcast of its radio show onsite with additional giveaways.
“They say there’s nothing like Texan hospitality, so we’re excited to combine that with our Tim Hortons community values,” said Ekrem Ozer, the president of Tim Hortons US. “And when you mix in the high-quality food and coffee we are known for, we feel Texans will feel right at home at Tims!”
So perhaps we have more in common with our neighbors (far) to the north than we might have guessed. Or not. Either way, we’ll be deliberating it over cold brew and Timbits.
Located at 21811 Clay Rd, Katy, TX 77449. The grand opening event will be Sunday, September 9, at 5 a.m.
