Liberty Kitchen Leaves the Loop for Memorial City

Liberty Kitchen plans a third location in west Houston.

Look for Liberty Kitchen @ The Treehouse to open late next year.

Ever since it was announced that Spring Branch favorite Jonathan's the Rub had scrapped plans for a planned move into a big, new spot at Memorial City, we've wondered what would go into the glassy, glitzy restaurant space instead. This morning, Liberty Kitchen answered that question with a press release announcing their intention to open a third location in that same spot at 963 Bunker Hill Rd., called Liberty Kitchen @ The Treehouse (yes, complete with @ sign).

This marks the third bit of big news to come out of FEED TX, the restaurant group that owns Liberty Kitchen & Oysterette in River Oaks, Liberty Kitchen & Oyster Bar in the Heights, BRC Gastropub in Rice Military, and Petite Sweets in Upper Kirby. First, it was announced that they'd be opening Lee's Fried Chicken & Donuts on Heights Blvd. in the current location of a Church's Chicken. The next week, Lee Ellis—who runs FEED TX with partners Lance Fegen, Carl Eaves, and Will Davis—spoke to Houstonia about their plans to revamp The El Cantina on White Oak Blvd.

While that revamp is well underway, we'll have to wait a bit for Liberty Kitchen @ The Treehouse to make its debut; the press release states that it won't open until late 2015. At over 5,600 square feet (with an additional 1,085 square feet of patio space), the restaurant will be massive compared to the group's other concepts.

"We couldn't be more excited to expand into Memorial City," says Ellis. "This is our first restaurant outside the Loop and we are thrilled to better serve our customers in west Houston. Davis and I are returning to the neighborhood we grew up in."
