Imagine this: while all your friends are busy stocking up on Halloween supplies this Friday, you could be getting a head start on Christmas shopping—all while feeding your face. Robb Walsh's newest book, The Chili Cookbook, has just hit store shelves and makes a terrific companion to, well, any of the other 12 cookbooks the Texas food authority and former Houstonia food critic has penned over the years (personally, we'd pair it with The Hot Sauce Cookbook and/or The Tex-Mex Cookbook for the ultimate Lone Star cooking gift set).

This Friday, October 2, Walsh will celebrating his newest cookbook's release by signing copies of the new chili cookbook at his restaurant, El Real Tex-Mex Cafe, from 5 to 7 p.m. The $25 entrance fee gets you a copy of the new book, a personalized inscription from Walsh himself and one of El Real's famous Frito pies, which comes topped with—what else?—chile con carne and is even served with a side of extra Fritos (in the bag, naturally).

Tickets to the big party can (and should) be purchased in advance online; they even include free valet. But if you were smart enough to already purchase your own copy of The Chili Cookbook, come on down anyway and Walsh will sign it gratis—no ticket required. That's the holiday spirit!
