Whether you're marking a milestone birthday or just another Thirsty Thursday, if you're going low-key, there are few better ways to do it than with pizza and beer. Midtown's newest late night concept offers both, along with a surprising bonus: Hammocks on the patio. Welcome to Axelrad Beer Garden.

The illuminated beer garden is the heart of Axelrad.

In a nutshell, Axelrad is all about relaxing and celebrating Houston, al fresco. And what's not to celebrate in Houston's first-ever "hammock grove"?
On the dog-friendly patio, guests are invited to enjoy the laid-back vibe of a neighborhood bar. And if it really is your neighborhood, there are rewards: Those who bike over or use public transportation are treated to a 5 percent discount.
The eclectic bar is housed in a 100-year-old building, once a grocery store operated by David and Gertrude Axelrad. Interior contributions from local artists only enhance its charm.

There's even artistry to the tap wall, which features tap handles carved and hand-painted by Venezuelan artist Maria Rangal, who lives in the Andes Mountains outside Merida and whose wooden handles resemble over-sized worry dolls.
Situated on the corner of Alabama and La Branch next to Luigi's Pizzeria, Axelrad encourages guests to order a slice from Luigi's to enjoy in the garden. From Brash Brewing to Saint Arnold, the bar is known for its impressive list of local craft beers on tap, making it easy to find a beer you love. The challenge is getting pizza, beer and all safely onto the hammock with you.
