Celebrate 360 Days of Weights & Measures This Week
When the long-awaited Weights & Measures opened last February, it did so as a testament to the years of work its team of owners had put in at restaurants, bakeries, bars and coffee shops, because Weights & Measures opened as all four of these things at once. It was an ambitious undertaking, and one that's paid off in the year since as the Midtown restaurant that could continues to accrue acclaim. Houstonia even named it the No. 3 best new restaurant of 2015.
All week long, Weights & Measures is celebrating its one-year anniversary with a rotating line-up of daily specials. Today's special pairs $10 pizzas and $10 bombers of beer until close; tomorrow, it's giving away fresh-baked donuts all day long. Free donuts. All day long.
Wednesday's special pays tribute to the restaurant's most popular dish: its meatballs. Chef Richard Kaplan's ribeye meatballs will be tucked into hoagies at lunch and scooped atop a mound of house-made spaghetti at dinner. Thursday, patrons will be able to enjoy half-off bottles of wine (a tribute, perhaps, to its sister bar, 13 Celsius, where all open bottles are 50 percent off every Sunday).
Beginning Friday, the restaurant shifts into gear for Valentine's Day with a prix fixe dinner menu on offer Feb. 12 through 14. Kaplan's three-course menu features dinner courses for two such as lobster ravioli topped with jumbo lump crab and Osetra caviar; a wood-grilled 24-ounce New York strip steak with truffle mashed potatoes; and double-chocolate truffle cake with ancho chile ice cream. Each course can be had a la carte, or you can cruise through all three courses for $125.
And inside the Love & Squalor Bar that's tucked into one corner of the large dining room, look for a Valentine's Day event even the singles can enjoy: an 80s' dance party this Saturday night from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m., with records spun by DJ Jacob Stogner. Mike Sammons's talented bar staff has whipped up a batch of cocktails to match, including a Total Eclipse of the Heart (bourbon, ruby port, chocolate-orange bitters) and a Crazy Little Thing Called Love (rye, peach, Campari, Galliano, lemon, cherry).
Reservations are strongly encouraged for both the 80s dance party and the Valentine's dinner menus, though all bets are off for those free donuts tomorrow.
