Sweet & Savory Kolaches: Kolache Shoppe
If you think kolaches are just dazed and confused hotdogs, then think again. The Kolache Shoppe has mastered the art of yeast dough—risen three times to create a delicately soft melt-in-your-mouth masterpiece. They team up with local vendors to source flawless fillings and toppings for their unique kolaches. They use goat's milk from Blue Heron Farm to make their luscious cajeta from scratch. The slow-smoked prime brisket comes from Grateful Bread. Boudin brought in from Hebert's Specialty meats, just four minutes down the road gets its own doughy place of honor. There’s no better way to show you support local than by trying every single thing on Kolache Shoppe’s menu.

Get ready to confuse your taste buds, because this unconventional take on fried chicken and waffles is sweet, savory, AND spicy thanks to a thoughtful garnish of bourbon pickled jalapeños.

Daddy Warbucks: Biskit Junkie
Why settle for boring old biscuits and gravy when you can gorge on a version stuffed with andouille sausage, chorizo scrambled eggs, or even chicken tikka masala? Biskit Junkie reopened at their new Montrose location bringing with them a slew of wild concoctions. One is the Daddy Warbucks—a homemade biscuit sandwich topped with Angus chicken fried steak, gravy, house-made strawberry preserves and fried red onions. Sorry Annie, but not even the real Mr. Warbucks was that rich.

Pancake Flight: Snooze, an A.M. Eatery
Set your alarm because it’s time to hit Snooze… Snooze A.M. Eatery that is. Although the Denver-born chain is new to Houston, its famous pancakes are already a breakfast force to be reckoned with. Morning beer or wine flights might be frowned upon, but there is not yet a stigma on ordering a round of pancakes. Choose up to three of their creative pancake creations including the Pineapple Upside Down, Peach Pie or Blueberry Danish. With more than eight varieties, this might be the hardest (and tastiest) decision you have to make all day.
