You may be familiar with the TLC hit television series “Cake Boss” and “Next Great Baker.” Now, Houstonians can enjoy the tasty creations made by the team at Carlo's Bakery. They've officially set up shop right here in the Bayou City… Or close enough anyway. Just last week, fans lined up outside The Woodlands Mall for the grand opening of Houstonia's first Carlo’s Bakery. Attractions included cakes, cookies and selfies with master baker/reality start Buddy Valastro.
The 18-strong chain has had quite a successful month here in Houston. Before The Woodlands opening, the bakery's third in Texas, the team also created a nearly 400-pound cake as a centerpiece for the Taste of the NFL Party.
The Woodlands location isn't just the third Texas store, it's also the third of Carlo's kiosk concepts, which are smaller versions of the full-size storefront in Hoboken, New Jersey. The kiosk will offer pastries such as cannoli and lobster tails (Valastro’s favorite), cupcakes, cookies and individual cakes, otherwise known as the bakery’s “home run.”
Originally established in 1910 in Hoboken, New Jersey, the success of Carlo’s Bakery took a sharp upward climb when the public became fascinated when Valastro's ornate cakes earned him his reality show. We can't help but be a bit cynical about as-seen-on-TV grub, but if the lines were anything to go by, Carlo's Woodlands location may yet be a success. Unless customer service continues to match the debacle reported by Eater.
