The stretch of White Oak drive near Studewood has become the busiest in the Heights for nightlife, with Houston institutions like Fitzgerald’s and Onion Creek standing alongside newer developments Ritual and the local branches of Little Woodrow's and Christian’s Tailgate. And this weekend, it's about to get even busier as many of these locations team up to host the three-day-long White Oak Super Street Party. 

The schedule of events begins Thursday and runs through Saturday, with a full schedule of food and drink specials on each day as well as live entertainment to carry you through the long weekend.

Ritual, at the corner of White Oak and Studewood, will be hosting a “Texas-style pig roast” on their patio, and will have drink specials for Old Fashioned cocktails, mimosas and Texas craft beers.

Across the street, Fitzgerald’s will be hosting live entertainment all weekend long. The Legendary Shack Shakers play a show on Thursday, along with the Delta Bombers and The Brains. On Friday, the venue hosts two sets by comedian Hannibal Burress (best known from Broad City and Why? With Hannibal Burress), while Saturday will feature a concert by Cuba Gooding and the Main Ingredient. (If you’re curious, yes, that is Cuba Gooding Sr., father of the Oscar-winning actor.) 

Down White Oak, Onion Creek will have DJs and live music along with a wide range of food and drink deals. Thursday night will include some Jamaican drink specials, including $2.50 Red Stripe beers and $7 Jamaican shandies, along with a $14 burger-and-pint special. Friday is “Cheap Ass Beer Day” and “Greasy Lips Fried Chicken” day.

A few paces down the block, Christian’s Tailgate will offer 50-cent oysters along with live music, karaoke, and food specials. Little Woodrow’s will have happy hour until 7 p.m. each night, along with various drink specials, including European drafts, mimosas, and Dos Equis.

And if you want to stick around to watch the game itself on Sunday, Ritual will continue its pig roast and drink specials throughout the day until the game is over.

While the Heights has exploded in popularity lately and hardly qualifies as a hidden destination, the neighborhood may just be the place to spend your Super Bowl weekend if you don’t want to deal with the traffic downtown—or if you’re a savvy traveler who’s more interested in what the locals are doing than in the typical tourist destinations.
